Artist Statement

My practice is an exploration of materiality, intuition, and visceral emotion, where I aim to challenge established norms and provoke transformative engagement. Through sculpture, mixed media, and painting, my work searches for the interplay between external forces and internal reflections, addressing themes such as temporality, fragility, and gut feeling.

A central thread in my work is the tension between the ephemeral and the enduring. I incorporate materials that evoke contrasting qualities - fragile newspapers and raw debris alongside polished oils and, more recently, polymer ceramics. These juxtapositions mirror the dualities I aim to explore: emotion and intellect, chaos and structure, impermanence and permanence. My process is deeply intuitive, informed by my research into affect theory, materiality, and difference, and often emerges from a tactile, hands-on engagement with materials. I strive to create works that resonate emotionally, inviting viewers into a visceral, almost bodily response to the forms and textures.

Recent works, such as Temporary Permanence and my series of sculptures, reflect this dialogue between fragility and resilience, intellect and intuition. In these, the delicate layering of recycled materials contrasts with the strength of natural and human forces.

Assemblages that reconstruct debris and building materials are juxtaposed with gut-feeling colours, creating forms that feel simultaneously precarious and grounded. My use of vibrant, dynamic colours, paired with textural details like scratches and marks, highlights this tension and aims to evoke a deeply physical connection with the viewer.

While my practice often begins with personal intuition, it is rooted in broader cultural and societal reflections. For example, I explore the influence of mass media and propaganda, using materials like newspapers as metaphors for temporality and collective memory. By painting with captivating, nearly seductive hues, I create objects of desire where I mimic Kitch.

I am equally fascinated by the sensory and emotional qualities of materiality, inspired by my experience with synaesthesia. Colours, textures, and forms in my work often function as sensory triggers, intended to evoke layered emotional responses. This has also led me to collaborate with chefs on projects that integrate multiple senses, blending art, taste, and touch in unique, multi-sensory experiences.

I strive to create accessible, inclusive art experiences that foster dialogue and community connection. Currently, I am developing free art theory lectures and collaborative exhibitions in local restaurants. These initiatives aim to make contemporary art more approachable.

Looking ahead, I want to expand the scale of my installations, exploring immersive environments that envelop the viewer. I am also continuing my material investigations, particularly into ceramics, while refining my approach to oil painting and drawing as tools for emotional abstraction. Through these developments, I aim to deepen the connection between my research, my art, and the audiences I engage with.

Ultimately, my practice is a search for clarity - between intuition and intention, the tactile and the conceptual, and the individual and the universal. Through my work, I hope to inspire moments of reflection, transformation, and connection, encouraging viewers to reconsider their relationship with the forces that shape our world.
