Living in Shanghai can make you feel anxious out of quantity of artists and events related to art. As nowhere in the world competition in China is ruthless. Curators, art dealers and artists are doing their best and created in order to sell more and get a desirable fame.
Since I visiting 'artistic talks' in small community in Shanghai (artist presents his works, methods and inspiration) I had feeling that everything what appear as a creative art piece very soon will be copied, modified, exaggerated and may be improved. And if something new is coming out of this ‘art machine’ then it is an art installation, a digital or dimensional art.
May 2018 is an artistic talk with Ren Jie.
Artist presents her works and explains methods of work. For me it looks like ‘lovely made in China’. Ren Jie studied sculpture and now artist creates three-dimensional elements mixed with readymade objects. Three works were originally presented, so I will describe one of them.
It is a combination in between four different materials frame was made out of cardboard (cream colour), felted material (dark blue colour) covered with wire net and stretched by rope. The size of this object is around 35x20 centimetres.
When i saw it first time i thought it was unfinished draft of the future work. Mix of the materials was boring for me, colour combination is dull and size is humdrum, for me it seems that in the shop was available only this size of cardboard.
Out of this experience I learned that colour, beauty of hue and appropriate size (minimum 50x50 cm) are very important for my spirit and perception.
March 2018 Yuan Chongyin
Artist analysing development of China and approaches to the ways of how it is done. As a child living in a slum he came back to his half destructed house and saw poetry in this. I think that heritage has different meaning to population in China and they use different approach to history than Europeanise. Original old building will be demolished and exact copy of it will appear.
Yuan Chongyin represents this idea via applying open (not mixed) colour from tubes on canvases and in a figurative or abstract gesture. Some art works shows photographic reality, some monochrome images referring to traditional Chinese art. Colour range quiet limited and texture is even. Emotional part of paintings in the rhythm but it is also not sharp game of elements so melancholy is a right word for this art but with strong reflection to the perturbation of a past.
