Assignment 2 Reflection on my progress

Demonstration of technical and visual skills. My final work included more than 35 types of different drawing (line making) techniques and not because I wanted to show all of them but the challenge was in combining them in one piece – as books on the bookshelf – all different but all together.

If looking back on all projects from this part:

I can admit that combination between manual drawing on paper together with digital drawing makes the result more exciting. The less successful work I think was a monochrome still-life. My friend called it “broken watch” as I didn’t notice while painting that hour hand can’t be in such a position… but this was not so important for me as I was focused more on a composition and methods of creation. But at the end, this work was a "conventional" and green. My favourite ones are actually with “beyond limits” of a flat surface like TaoBao boxes and three-dimensional works with effects from the light and digital involvement.

Quality of outcome and demonstration of creativity. At the beginning of the course, I was not quite sure what I can do and what I'm allowed to do. My first assignment work was "somewhat conventional" as I probably didn't understand what exactly I allowed to present at UK University. Because in Brazil, for example, they would think that I'm old fashioned and not progressive with fruit still-life but in Russia, they would not allow me to include iPad in an academic drawing. So approximately in the middle of part two, I became more open with solutions for exercises. And I need to admit that doing in parallel the course of Understanding Visual Culture helps dramatically to build the attitude and concept more precise.

Demonstration of creativity. ;) ;) ;) I love it!

Context reflection. Research helps in terms of the building approach and idea. Also, I started to go through the Dexter, E, (2010). Vitamin D: New Perspectives in Drawing and Downs, et al., (2007). Drawing Now: Between the Lines of Contemporary Art. Overview of new developments in drawing accelerate the learning process but sometimes I start thinking the more you read and see things the more your mind full of information which not allows you to be unique. That is what happens with kids when they don’t have any experience yet with “innocent eye” they create more vivid examples of art.
