Project 1 Shallow relief sculpture
In the beginning, I had an idea which I want to work with, but to find the 3D solution for this idea was a challenge for me. Therefore, I was confused even with the material for sculpture. What should I use and what would it mean?! Of course looking at the Gabo, Tatlin, Picasso, Smith, Gormley one can think that minimum you need to have a production company for melting and casting. But what to do if you didn’t earn yet for such a privilege to work with these materials? For me would be interesting to try to melt used plastic and see if I can work with it. But… Now I need to find available materials. I can say that to buy wood, metal, new plastic – extremely expensive here in Germany compare to Russia, Brazil or China where I had a chance to work.
So, I searched everywhere and first in my head. What to do? I know that probably right would be thinking with a pencil, so I did both, with a pencil and with materials in my hands.
In the end, it was an experience just to start something new. To feel the materials and try to embody it with my concept. The result is several small works. All detailed information about this can be found in the posts under the Coursework 1.
Project 2 Open-space construction
The second project again turned out to be difficult in the most beginning. I can’t identify what is my point which I want exactly to say with the artwork? For example, David Smith in his earlier works was interested in the subject of war and violence. And how he expressed it? On the one hand, it was a contrast in between metal sharp, broken lines and shapes which were confronting each other and on the other hand these forms were gentle and delicate.
How I would apply this ides to my work? I think what I see in social media is this duality of people; they pretend to be someone they are actually not. And whole this process creates a new reality which is different from what is there. This contrast, as I can see it at this stage, I can represent through the deformed people's body. Or I need to create deformed reality. And the material which I choose in itself very representative, it is artificial and dangerous for nature. Plastic and social media is opposite to nature and the natural.
I need to think if there is something positive?
But instead of finding a solution for the sculpture, I found an image for the painting.
