Final work

Updated: Sep 25, 2019

A Story

Size of each picture 79 x 83 cm, Materials used: fluorescent acrylic, acrylic, oil pastel, dry pastel, watercolor, Chinese brushes, varnish, chalk, silver spray. Video projection on the First image length 1’48’’, on the Second image video length 3’20’’, on the Second image video length 0’16’’

Here I will try to describe in detail the technical process. Since the work turned out to be complex, I am at a loss to give it a name, so figuratively it can be called "A Story". I paid special attention to the presentation of the work. Video playback and visitor involvement in the process of creating a work is sequential therefore requires explanation.

At first, the works are presented with ordinary light as in the presented photo, after which the sequential switching on begins, first the “black lamp”, one minute pause. Then the first video begins. It is played on the first image and after its completion a small pause of 10 -15 seconds is needed.

The second video projection on the second image begins. After its completion, there is also a pause of 10-15 seconds, while the third video already projects on the image but starts only after this time over.

The video on the third image starts and plays in the reverse order, as shown in the video

After that (probably there should be an assistant and switch the video to the tablet in front of the viewer), the viewer can create the girl’s face on the last image. Technically, after my drawing disappeared from the screen, the tablet screen is displayed on the image in front of the viewer and he can start drawing. Technically, the tablet should have a program for drawing SketchBook or Procreate in a format that exceeds the picture frame by 20-30 cm, but does not cross the border of the drawing hanging nearby. After the drawing is ready the viewer will probably take a picture of his creation.

Therefore, it is important that all works (excluding the frame) are located on the wall no higher than 185 centimetres. In the moment of a photo of a girl with a selfie, a mirror sensation should appear. The whole process can take up to 5-10 minutes, after which the light and video are turned off. 2-3 minutes of pause and the whole process starts anew.

Using an ultraviolet lamp, the result is

Projection

I tried different projection approaches and the idea of drawing, on samples of each work you can see the process

Without UV light but with a projection a drawing does not have illumination and colours

As a solution for the background of the figure, I chose the experimental approach, in other words, I experimented and filled the background and objects with tone and color until the work was completed.

Mixing chalk, varnish (for glueing to paper) and acrylic (for colour), I put with a putty knife the mass on the paper. The resulting space between the layers, especially clearly visible when the light changes.

For the preparatory and final work, I unexpectedly discovered the new features of Photoshop, SketchBook, Procreate and studied the new programs of DaVinci Resolve, Du Recorder, Pixaloop.

Technical videos

Video for the projection must be set in accordance with the above photos. The lines of the drawing on paper and the lines of projection should correspond as in the photo.
