I started making maquettes.
One idea with crossed "arms" was too overloaded in form for such material.
I suggested placing the viewer in such a space where no exit or entrance is visible, but at the same time, everything should be simple and emotional.
Because in the question that worries me - is this war good or is war can be justified, the answer is extremely simple. And the answer here, like the entrance to this sculpture, is only one.
Getting inside this monument, a person finds himself, on the one hand, among the metal colour, and on the other, among newspaper articles.
This is the main thing that brought discord and misunderstanding in the current situation - propaganda. Years of suggestion of one-sided truth through the media have done their job. You can only escape from captivity through your own strength of morality.
I want to call this work "Mother, hug me!" to invite people, dearest, to me to dialogue.
Maybe in this way, I can awaken in them this sense of morality, which for some reason has been lost. This form is also reminiscent of the wrapping of the arms in an embrace.
My material for this work is a newspaper. It must be collected on the territory where the work will be exhibited.
This will allow, firstly, preserving the local language for viewers, and secondly, it should indicate that propaganda is happening everywhere. Not only now in Russia.
Such an amount of newspapers that will surround the viewer at the moment of being in the centre of the composition will definitely overwhelm. By doing this, I would like to create a feeling of oppression, pressure and evoke a natural counter-feeling of release, and freedom, encouraging the opposition to this massive newspaper ideology.
Exposition place:
Since the main character is a newspaper, the exposition of such a work can be in any voluminous and enclosed space - a museum, an exhibition space under a roof, shopping centres, an airport, and so on.
Building / Constriction:
I think this is a hell of a work! Do I want to share responsibility with other people like I did in a previous project with inviting volunteers?! I think no. In my opinion, each of the Russians is to blame for what happened, even those who speak out against it at rallies. It is my fault that I was not fond of politics and did not understand where my country was heading. I am to blame for the fact that even after voting in the presidential election against Putin, I did not go to rallies - I was afraid of being beaten by the police. Now, as an artist living outside of Russia, the only thing I can do is try to make at least one person think through my art. A simple speech people do not hear and do not want to hear. Therefore, I will work alone, expiating my guilt.
Since the work is big and bulky, I will prepare small (meter by meter) panels in the studio and install them on site. After completing the wall, the material will be processed to a uniform surface. Since the initial work is done without paint, silver paint will be sprayed after drying the entire sculpture.
The preliminary dimensions are three meters high, 10 meters long, about a meter wide. For an accurate calculation, before starting construction, I will build trial dimensions from cardboard in a 1: 1 ratio to determine the correct size of the work.
