“…there could be more evidence of development (sketches and visual inspirations in your sketchbook). ” (OCA Tutor)
Regarding the evidence for my development, I will try to provide more information in the next part. But my method of work is disordered, random, and this spontaneity is paying off. I live the idea inside. I don't need to sketch it. I give it the right to develop itself - first inside of me and then in the process of creating together with the material. What inspires me ... these are scraps of what I saw, heard, eaten, smelled. How can I sketch a scent? I can write more about the things that provoked my work.
“Also, think about how your work fits in with the key processes of contemporary art. For example, analysing similar artists more rather than just mentioning them.” (OCA Tutor)
In my opinion, contemporary art now in Europe is digital LGBT art for a narrow circle of dedicated curators and collectors. The average viewer will be confused about what they see.
In my beloved Motherland, in Russia, academicians preach the truths of the classics and try to revive something through it, but there is no task to create something new. ... Drink a lot and continue to pray. At the same time, a tiny percentage who speaks at least one foreign language simply screams about the uniqueness of Russian culture and its contemporary art.
Everything is fine in China. They have their own plan for 500 years ahead. They are educated in leading art schools in Europe and America, and then return to their homeland and do something exceptional and beautiful. And by the way, in most cases, according to their object of art, one can say - yes, a Chinese did it.
In America, hyperrealism, abstraction, conceptual, digital and NTF art and everything that you can imagine. Here, individuality is valued. In a word, fellow artists - America is a free paradise for a creative soul with great opportunities, only in this art market, you must survive.
Everything is fine in Latin America too. It is an independent world developing according to its own rules, but rather without rules because the political situation of each of their countries leaves much to be desired (who would say =)). Very colourful, conceptual and original art with a strong, national accent.
Eastern world. Calligraphy, highly digital and women's struggle for their rights. Everyone understands this, support it, but it is far and dangerous to fly there.
England has a royal family and gentlemens. A refined sense of humour, high demands and understanding of tangible matters. An example to follow. The mix of cultures blurs the boundaries of nationalities. Peace to the whole world.
Where am I in contemporary art? I am both the ant and the universe. A Gastarbeiter (German for foreign worker) in a foreign country. I want to drink vodka and believe in a bright future. But in reality, I don't like vodka, and my faith is getting less and less. Art is freedom, it is life outside the ordinary. I'm not there and not here. My work is a search for the human essence and the meaning of all this. "I walk on the ground. And from fate, like everyone else, I ask for happiness." (с. lyrics from a popular Russian song)
The longer I live outside my homeland, the more I feel it in me. Therefore, digital technologies do not appeal to me it is not a Russian thing. More natural is to chop wood for a stove or work in the garden. Translated into a cultural language - I work with my hands, I live the moment together with the material in each of the works. And the result is a physical object, my icon, catharsis. I believe and pray through it, and they come to life and make dreams come true.
An artist's work is always personal. This is his individual vision and experience of the world. In my case, the sense of colour (synesthesia) led me to art and became key in my work.
“Your work has been executed well form the beginning but be careful it does not become repetitive. That’s why its important to show alternatives of ways of playing with colour, surface manipulation and formats of your work.” (OCA Tutor)
I remember this and strive to show it.
“Personal project- … If it is, it is a new way of thinking. … There is a danger that the work is a repeat of the coursework. So, think about what you are doing with paper and colour- e.g., using light, making it more sculptural or playing with more product-based work (furniture). Where will you go with this project? ” (OCA Tutor)
It was not obvious to me that my work should be different from the coursework. I thought the course was a good opportunity to experiment with my chosen path. Okay, I'll separate my project with synesthesia and course outcomes.
“There is mention of artists throughout your log, however, for the ‘context’ criteria, there needs to be more analysis and unpacking of their themes and ideas. ” (OCA Tutor)
I have already begun to pay special attention to this.
