Project 3 Test for domes

The idea to create domes in original shape didn't work.

works from 2019

In the series of works with the nails, screws and threads I experimented with space. It is like a relief with structure and volume.

At the same time, the technique matches the way how church traditionally would be built with nails and wood.

I thought I could try to wrap the plastic over the structure, but the wire turned out to be unstable, so I need to look for another way of construction.

To continue this series with the painted broken lines of buildings and the volumetric shape of the domes or design the domes separately with small sticks? But what it will give me?

Henrique Oliveira, for example, brings together the nature of the medium and the people intentions. The artist through the material brings the question of our connection with wood, the dominance of one over the other.

Ben Butler has a concept of the balance between negative and positive space, human and nature. In between these topics, he creates his dynamic pieces. Amazing to see the preparatory works and his drawings, even though the artist says that he is not planning his pieces “My work rarely begins with drawings or preconceived images. I tend to approach materials directly, playing for an extended period, and discovering previously unforeseen possibilities for a system of construction.“ (Ben Butler at Rice Gallery http://www.ricegallery.org/ben-butler (Accessed 28.05.2020))

Artists work with wood because the material itself can demonstrate the process of growth and death. A tree is a part of nature as is a man.

And what about the plastic in this regard? Where are the controversial points of this material? Plastic was created by man. For example, like religion.

Dianna Cohen working with plastic but the intention of her art is to stop global pollution. Here plastic used as a negative connotation. This material is against nature.

Impressive work of Yasuaki Onishi presents the duality of the material through modern technical realisation. I see here cultural inheritance, a connection with the art of Katsushika Hokusai.

What would be for me the connecting point with my culture? Melancholy, space, fields, church, religion, birch, vodka, winter, felt boots, cap with ears, Khokhloma, Gzhel, oppression, king, man, war, bear, taiga, etc. ... this is something from generation to generation This is reflected in Russian art.

Further steps will be to select the material and find a unique processing method.
