Reflection on Tutor Report 1

Updated: May 25, 2020

« Well done for a good and ambitious start. You have been material inquisitiveness and looking to balance making and meaning in the work. You have documented the work well and considered how it should be viewed. There is an integration of theory and practice emerging» (OCA Tutor)

Thank you so much for your feedback.

« Interesting links between the virtual, physical and digital, the social and lack of contact in online platforms» (OCA Tutor)

I am encouraged that I managed to identify the problem not only with words but also with the work itself. The advantages of my work are an interpretation of the sculpture through the painting; using the qualities of the material to demonstrate the tension of the idea; use of common objects (phone screen) as a matter, material for the image; creating unity out of segmental elements by using paint; pointing out the incongruity through the materials.

«You have a very clear thought process and intention but tend to move to how that is defined in its final form. It is good to evidence the way that ideas are materially drawn out whether through - drawing, or speculative making.» (OCA Tutor)

This is exactly what I like – speculative making ;) I play and position objects in my mind and then start to bring the result to life adapting it on the way. Looks like that I need to draw and plan more in advance. But sometimes then the lightness and freshness are gone. So to say, the expressionist feeling is not there anymore.

«What is good is that you are inquisitive about the ideas materially and conceptually and how that can inform your own practice.» (OCA Tutor)

One more advice here I want to mention is that to research more artists whom I don’t like and to try to understand why? And who is stuck in my head or my imagination, why I always can bear in mind some particular artists?

«…wider context for making and communicating ideas. …what is possible materially» (OCA Tutor)

Plan for the next future is - unpacking my ideas, question my artwork after its completion, analyze the connection with paint and sculpture, and research the artists with same interests of mine.
