Reflection on Tutor Report 3

« Your approach to the exploration of sculptural possibilities is robust and ambitious and it is clear that you are fully committed to the development of your creative practice. (OCA Tutor)

«you need to allow the work to emerge more forcefully out of its process rather than pursuing a preconceived idea (OCA Tutor)

It seems to me that my long work in the office and focus on results has brought me to where I am now. The result is more important than the process. But now I come to the opposite.

My focus on the result and the idea has become a priority, which makes it difficult to involve the sense of the material. Therefore, my further plan is to live in the process, prioritize the material and only then follow the idea.

During the video tutorial, my tutor gave me one piece of advice - "Forget about the art object in front of you. Is it just an object? Then what is it?"

Coming up with convoluted ideas, the final art object becomes too intricate and with direct logic, so to say the realisation of the idea turns to be simple.

«Make sure to fully explore and document the material possibilities presented by the course exercises and do allow these materials to take centre stage in any resulting pieces. (OCA Tutor)

Necessary remark. Will be taken into account in the future.

«We discussed the possibility for drawing to become a sculptural activity… drawing some of the things you make» (OCA Tutor)

Ok. Additionally, I am encouraged to add depth to my research and build it through my experience. I should pay attention to describing the process of working with the material. What I feel and what experience I receive?

Phyllida Barlow, Jane Bennett, Tim Ingold, Anna Maria Maiolino and Katriona Beales are suggested reading/viewing.
