“This is effective exploration but review your work and ask whether the paintings have been explored in numerous alternative ways. There is a danger, although accomplished pieces of work, that they are becoming predictable. … Be careful, not to overwhelm yourself with too any wider contexts- try and have more discernment.” (OCA Tutor)
At the moment when I received the feedback, I was already finishing the fourth part, but after reading it I somehow stopped working. And I still cannot understand why?! Probably, I was confused by these words - "works become predictable." I decided for myself that emotions, colour and material will be at the centre of my research. I moved, work after work studying form, colour, performance, evoked emotions and connections with the present moment. I imagined that this course would take me through every point in my work, and cleanse my practice of unnecessary things, polish and lead to what I am looking for. But now I feel that I am beginning to doubt again, and I am being pushed towards something that I am not interested in. I understand that it may seem like my practice is rather predictable. It seems to me that this is not entirely true. Through repetition and study of material and shape, colour and emotion, ideas and techniques naturally develop. I would like to stay here and delve into the depths of colour and emotion.
I checked my work and, given my previous experience, I can say that, yes, the paintings have been explored in many alternative ways. And not only by delving into the material of my choice, but I tried to look and experiment outside the physical world.
