“…Ghiberti explored and expanded the utility of linear perspective to create believable, atmospheric, and deep settings for his biblical dramas. Their naturalism is heightened by exquisite attention to pose, gesture, expression, and decorative detail, much of which came during the chasing phase, thus revealing Ghiberti’s expertise in cold-working of the metal and mastery of surface detail surely derived from his experience as a goldsmith.” (Leader, 2008 online)

Precise and verified composition, it amazes with its harmony. The panels convey the life of movement. People on the panels are captured not just standing still, but turning, tilting or walking. Due to this, it is interesting for the viewer to trace the development of events. Master brings people and objects into groups, which separates the panel levels and shows the perspective.

The most interesting thing in the artist's work for me is that he explored the volume on a plane. The reliefs resemble the structure of cities from an aeroplane flight altitude. Moreover, these structures resemble the mechanical construction of complex machines. This combination of structures evokes associations of both a top view and an inside view. I will try to focus on this opposition of the general and the particular. For example, how does the plane compare to the volume on the screen? Where is the border of relief and drawing?
