Research Point. Julien Creuzet

The artist dissolves into the material. He connects scattered pieces of objects, unites them with a story, music he lives them. Strong confidence in creating something unique helps him. Practically the shamanic way of storytelling about life and impressions transports the eyewitness into the artist's world, and the viewer begins to believe.

“Not restrained by the imperial imposition of the Cartesian plane, his artworks—which tell stories of displacement, trade, and diaspora—invite variable mobilities and visibilities. Composed of songs, poetry ... videos, and assembled objects and materials, his installations are spaces for transoceanic transactions and cultural exchanges between past and present. … What set the High Art Gallery exhibition apart was the way in which Creuzet has created reticent shapes each consenting to a form of silence that activate the imagination of anyone encountering them. Rather than claiming an overarching theme, the show functioned like an ecosystem in which forms abounded and freely interacted.” (Votive Forms: Julien Creuzet 2020 by Laura Herman At: http://moussemagazine.it/julien-creuzet-laura-herman-2020/ (Accessed 06.07.2021)

“The project rethinks mobility, the climate crisis, and societal shifts in the wake of Covid-19. Focusing on a single location, Creuzet underscores the importance of the local and of reconnecting with one’s roots. His journey combines histories with fantasies, and ancestral connections with cosmopolitanism. We were impressed by the generosity of his project, how it makes space for other artists – a gesture of care and humility that’s in keeping with our healing moment.” Julien Creuzet selected for BMW Art Journey 2021.
