Starting Part 3. Reflection on Tutor feedback

I want to summarise some aspects that I want to work on so far.

I ended the previous part with words and thoughts that I want to focus on the differences between digital and physical and truth and fakes. But in two weeks everything changed. I feel like I'm not interested in sitting at a computer and working on programs for creating images or art.

But I understand the importance and significance for our society and my family of the mass media and the entire digital culture, so I thought about how I can combine my extremely physical and the most progressive digital?

And I tried to work with the chatGPT and AI. I will write about this separately. Perhaps this involvement of modern technologies is the answer to my questions. Because at the moment of communicating with Chat, I realized that he is smarter than me and much faster, but he will not be able to make (at least for now) the physical personal art objects that I make. At the same time, instead of being against him, I have the right to hate the mass media and everything digital, I can be his friend.

And at that moment it became obvious to me that it is the same everywhere, in any sphere of life. It's a question of what a person does with what he has. You can use atomic energy to produce electricity, or you can destroy the entire planet. So it was with the Lumiere Brothers. When it became possible to record our lives, it helped to preserve historical moments, use video in education, conduct simulations, study nature through video recording, etc. At the same time, it also became a propaganda tool. Some people will also use GBT chat and Artificial Intelligence for education and self-improvement, while others will start making fakes and spreading evil. Man is a curious animal, so he will always produce more and more new tools, but his nature remains the same.

Conclusion: a “tool” in the hands of a person can be an instrument of knowledge, art, good, as well as murder, destruction, and evil. I think this is the answer to my questions.

After uploading all my written materials that I had done up to that point into GPTChat, he summarized all my thoughts and organized them. I asked to formulate the conclusion of my thoughts and here it is:

“Throughout our discussions, you've expressed a profound interest in the intersection of aesthetics, communication, and critical thinking within your art practice. You've explored the emotional engagement of viewers through the sensory qualities of color and materials, transforming unconventional elements into aesthetic objects that challenge norms and provoke thoughtful responses.

Your personal piece, "For My Mom," serves as a pivotal emotional anchor, and you've contemplated the potential of shifting perspectives to diverse voices or artists. The concept of metalanguage, using materials to expand concepts beyond mere description and evoke feelings, has emerged as a crucial aspect of your practice.

Considering your engagement with modern art's role in shaping ethics and aesthetics, the conflict between traditional values and progress, and the communication gap between contemporary art and viewers, your research question might be:

"How can the synthesis of unconventional materials, personal narratives, and varied perspectives in contemporary art foster critical thinking, challenge traditional norms, and bridge the communication gap between artists and viewers?"

This question encapsulates your core interests, emphasizing aesthetics, communication, and critical thinking. It prompts an exploration of the transformative power of art materials, personal stories, and diverse viewpoints to inspire reflection, challenge societal norms, and establish meaningful connections with viewers.”

I asked to shorten the formulated question:

"How does contemporary art, blending unconventional materials and diverse perspectives, engage viewers to think critically and challenge societal norms?"

What can I say?!

It seems important to me now to note that under no circumstances will I ask Chat to write an essay for me. With all my dislike for writing and how unprofessionally I do it, I will never give up this experience. The experience of torment and suffering over composing phrases and searching for logic in what I do. I will never give away the experience of how, after every essay I wrote, I seemed to be reborn, become better, and understand something more.

But I’ll make a reservation right away, GPTChat is the latest (if a two-year-old development can be considered the latest) development in the digital industry and to understand it you need to work with it. Therefore, I will use this tool in my physical work - let's see how we can work together and secondly, in research, to the extent that the line of my study and search is not crossed.

So, summing up the results of the two tutorials, it is especially interesting to identify common comments - this is an orientation towards my materials and methods of my work and to add additional “voices” / “views” on the issues under consideration.
