Texture

Updated: Sep 26, 2018

Before starting this experiment, one thought came to my mind - why should we copy the textures of existing objects? I saw a lot of excellent painters who copied one-to-one orange peel and in China, there are a lot of excellent artists who copying from photos any possible surface – better than a printer. Photography by the way also a good example of a representation of the surface textures in the flat medium. In a three-dimensional medium, Marcel Duchamp represented an excellent texture, almost identical to the origin, in his art piece “Fountain” 1917. In other words, it is the texture itself as it is a ready made. As a conclusion, in art, I would target to research and find new textures and dimensions.

Meanwhile, my experimenting gives me a joy and refreshes a potential of the materials. I tried as many options as I could image – up to frottage of water and a soap bubbles. Here is a result of the frottage:

I also tried to discover different ways of the surface textures imitation with such a material like a pencil (different softness), ink, acrylic, charcoal (different softness), sanguine, sauce. I believe I found very good solutions for metal, wool, hair, grass, different kind of weather conditions, fabric, carpets and so on. Of course, there were a lot of bad examples of using not an appropriate material, gesture in a frottage or experimenting with water not always looked good but this what experiments for.
